You might think of student activities as nights out, house parties, fancy dress, and being hungover eating leftover cheesy chips… and that’s all fun, but if you’re looking for something a little more wholesome then we have some great ideas for you in the Gloucester area, and a bit further afield too.
Visit Nature in Art
A 16 minute drive from our Blackfriars Residence in Gloucester if you’re lucky enough to have a car with you at uni – or just under an hour by public transport – you’ll find Nature in Art, a stunning art gallery at Wallsworth Hall. With art inspired by (you guessed it) the natural world, located in a beautiful 1700s stately home, it’s definitely a wholesome activity for students to enjoy. Especially if you’re into your art!
Try rock climbing
It’s definitely something a bit different – get some comfortable, stretchy clothes on and head to The Warehouse Climbing Centre. You can walk there in 15 minutes from our Blackfriars student accommodation in Gloucester, and you’ll find an indoor climbing wall and bouldering room suitable for all abilities. Why not give it a go?
Check out the Forest of Dean sculptures
You’ll definitely need a car to get here (a 30 minute drive) unless you don’t mind swapping buses a couple of times, but the Forest of Dean is a great location for a wholesome student activity – sculpture spotting. There is a 4.5 mile route filled with sculptures, and the forest is a beautiful place to visit anyway. It was also featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, so fans of the franchise should definitely pay the area a visit.
Visit a nature reserve
Just 53 minutes away from our Blackfriars Residence student accommodation by public transport lies Tewkesbury Nature Reserve – from swans to butterflies and everything in between, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful wildlife and stunning plants and flowers. It’s perfect for snapping some gorgeous Insta shots, too!
Try your hand at pottery painting
The ultimate wholesome activity you’ll see all over TikTok, pottery painting is fun no matter how crafty you are. Head to Dixie Dot Crafts in Quedgeley, just a half an hour bus ride away from our Gloucester student accommodation. From plates to mugs to cute ornaments, pick your piece and get painting!
Go skiing
If you’ve always wanted to go skiing but the Swiss Alps feel a little but unattainable, you can still give it a go right here in Gloucester – a 10 minute drive or taxi ride away from Blackfriars. It’s the longest dry ski slope in England, where you can do proper lessons or just enjoy a recreational skiing session. Why not?
Nights out are all fun and games but if you’re looking to avoid a hangover and do something fun, relaxing and a little bit different, enjoy these wholesome student activities in Gloucester. They’re all accessible from our excellent student accommodation, Blackfriars Residence, and are sure to help you create last memories of your time as a student.
