When you pack your clothes to take to university with you, you really don’t want to overpack OR underpack. You might have less space than you do at home, and carting multiple suitcases with you to your accommodation can be a nightmare! But that being said, you do need enough clothes that you’re not constantly having to do laundry. With all of this in mind, here are some staples that you need to pack with you for your university wardrobe!
Hoodies or sweatshirts
A couple of really comfortable hoodies or sweatshirts are ideal for university – they’ll keep you cosy on colder days, and comfort really is key to being able to concentrate and get your work done. A hoodie or jumper can easily be thrown on with some leggings or jeans and you’re good to go… perfect when you oversleep and need to be out the door as quickly as possible.
Pyjamas
You may or may not be a pyjama person generally, but as you will be sharing common spaces with flatmates it really is a good idea to have some pyjamas you can throw on if you need to go to the toilet or get midnight snacks. Get some cheap but comfortable ones and you’re good to go!
Going out clothes
There will be *plenty* of nights out, so take a few different outfits that are a bit more dressy and can be worn to bars and clubs. But don’t feel like you have to take too many – remember it’s okay to be an outfit repeater, and most people genuinely won’t notice. And you might get lucky and end up with flatmates you can share clothes with, which is always fun.
A waterproof jacket
It might sound simple but a lot of people forget to bring a waterproof coat or jacket to university with them, and you really don’t want to be caught in a downpour if you can avoid it. Whether you get a big thick parka coat or just a thin waterproof jacket you can roll up and stuff in your bag, make sure you do bring one with you. We all know what the English weather is like, after all…
Accessories
One way to make the most of limited space when it comes to packing the wardrobe essentials for university is by accessorising – take a few different hats, scarves, items of jewellery, belts and so on. Mix and match these with your clothes to create whole new outfits, and you’re good to go!
Enough underwear
To avoid having to do too many loads of laundry, it makes sense to have plenty of underwear with you so you’ve always got some clean and fresh pairs to throw on between washing loads. Grabbing a few packs of plain comfortable undies from somewhere like Primark will be a game changer as you head off to university.
No matter what your personal style is, these basic essentials are things you should definitely pack when you’re thinking about what clothes to take to university with you!
