As cosy and well-decorated as your student accommodation might be, it can still feel like something is missing to make it that little bit more homely. Houseplants can be a fantastic way to really add that little something to your room or any shared space in student accommodation, and we’ve got a list of the best ones to choose… aka, the ones that won’t die so easily if you all forget to water them!
Why should you add plants to your student accommodation decor?
House plants add a breath of fresh air to your accommodation – literally! They are proven to purify the air within an indoor space, helping your breath easier and feel healthier. This is such an easy way to improve your life, with little commitment and not much cost. They’re also said to help with your mental health, and a plant will also give you something to focus on outside of studying and socialising if you’re feeling a little down. Of course they look lovely too, meaning you can add a pop of colour and interest to a space.
Snake Plant
Get a snake plant for your student accommodation – they’re tall and leafy, and look great. You can also pick them up for as little as £10, which is a worthwhile investment! To take care of a snake plant, water sparingly and allow the soil to dry out between each watering.
Spider Plant
This is another great choice for a student house plant; they’re very forgiving if you do forget to water them, and they’re really good at purifying the air. Avoid putting them in direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves, but otherwise just give them a decent amount of water when you remember. A spider plant typically costs between £6 and £10, so another bargain to brighten up your space.
Succulents
If you’re looking for a really easy house plant for student accommodation, look no further than succulents – they come in a really wide variety and are typically quite small, so you can have a few together which look really cute. You *should* place them in bright but indirect sunlight, and only water when the soil is completely dry. It doesn’t get much easier than that, and they start as cheap as £2.
Aloe Vera
Another really easy plant to look after when living in student accommodation is aloe vera – small and only needs minimal watering, it also has the bonus that you can use the sap inside to heal burns and cuts! You can typically pick them up for between £6 and £10, and they last for years to come.
All of these plants are easily accessible and look great, helping to brighten up your space and clean the air so you can live healthily while at university! Here’s to you becoming a plant parent…
