Black Friday is just around the corner, and plenty of brands have already started sharing their discounts and deals. It can be so tempting to go wild on Black Friday and spend a huge portion of your student budget – but we want to talk about how you can shop responsibly during this time!
Do you need it?
When shopping around during Black Friday, it’s important to consider whether you’re buying something because you need it, or just because you want it and you think it’s a good deal. That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy the things you want, but be mindful. If it’s been on your radar for months and you’ve been waiting for it to go on sale, then go for it! But if you just saw a gift set and it seems like a good price and they’re shouting about the deal, but it’s something you didn’t previously want to buy anyway, then you’re not actually saving anything…
If it’s something you need, like a new duvet for example or some skincare you use regularly and have run out of, or a laptop to replace your tired old one… then it makes sense to purchase during the Black Friday sales!
Is it *actually* a good deal?
A lot of the time on Black Friday, companies inflate the ‘before’ price to make the sale price look even better. It’s important to do your research, and if you can, keep an eye on prices in the lead up to Black Friday to ensure that the deal price is actually cheaper than the normal price of the product.
If you are buying something you’ve been really wanting or needing for a while, shop around and see if the price is lower elsewhere – and always check if you can combine your student discount with Black Friday sale prices to get an even better deal.
Get ahead with Christmas
Ahhh, the C word! It’s creeping ever closer, and Black Friday is a fantastic opportunity to get some gifts for a cheaper price ahead of the festive season. In fact, it’s probably the best reason to shop on Black Friday, as we all know the pressures that come alongside Christmas gifting. Be mindful with your Christmas shopping; don’t buy gifts just for the sake of it, and again always check that you’re actually getting a good deal with your purchases.
Don’t forget to check in store too
Black Friday isn’t just about online deals – you might be able to get some bargains in store too. This is a great way to shop during the madness of Black Friday, as you’re able to physically see and feel the products to know you’re buying a good quality item.
So remember, while we all love a great deal it’s important to be mindful with your Black Friday shopping! Check that you’re saving a decent amount, and don’t buy items you didn’t already want or need – because that really isn’t a bargain…
