Spring is, finally, just around the corner! The days are getting longer, and the sun will set much later. This should boost our mood, give us more time for having fun, and just be an all-round improvement on the dark, rainy Winter days. Of course there will be a few April showers, no doubt, but all in all we should be able to get outside a lot more once Spring arrives. Here are some of our favourite Spring days out as a student!
Look for nearby soft hikes
We’re not saying you should buy some walking boots and a pole and take up hiking as a full-time hobby, going up mountains every weekend, but there’s something to be said about heading to a rural area for some fresh air and a nice walk. Search for short, flat, easy walks near you, put your comfiest trainers on, and get some steps in. It’s nice to get out of the city every once in a while, explore nature and breathe in some nice clean air. You’ll feel much better for it, and it doesn’t need to be anything strenuous.
Eat your lunch outdoors
Dining al fresco is one of the real joys of warmer weather – and it doesn’t have to cost a lot. Think about the change in season while you do your weekly student food shop; with nicer days on the horizon you might be more inclined to eat a salad, or some ‘picky bits’, or a nice tart or quiche of some sort. This is a stark contrast to the hot soups and leftover stew that get us through the Winter months! And the best thing about this sort of food is that it can be packaged up and eaten cold, somewhere outdoors. Whether it’s your garden, a picnic bench at university, the local park… eating your lunch outdoors is the perfect free Spring activity for students.
Join a sports team
Most universities will have a range of sports teams available to join – hopefully you’re still able to do so, and it’s worth choosing a sport that is played outside like football, rugby, rowing or hockey. This is a great way to join in with a team activity, get some more exercise in, and spend some time outdoors. Or if sport really isn’t for you, why not go along to support some outdoor sports teams? You’ll make friends, and it’ll be a really positive way to enjoy time outside this Spring!
Visit a National Trust location
Did you know that as a student or young person you can get a year’s membership to the National Trust for just £3.80 per month? That’s probably cheaper than a latte or a pint, and this membership gives you the chance to visit some of the most beautiful locations in the country. From Dyrham Park in South Gloucestershire to Berrington Hall in Herefordshire, there are so many stunning places to see – just walking around these areas will make for a gorgeous Spring day out for students.
Not long now: brighter, longer days and warmer weather are coming soon. Make the most of it and enjoy these Spring days out as a student!
