As the weather is starting to (finally!) get warmer in England, it’s really important that you properly take care of yourself – and that can sometimes look a little different in the summer months. Stay tuned as we discuss the best student self care tips for hotter weather!
Stay hydrated
When the temperature creeps up, it is vitally important to make sure you stay hydrated! You should be drinking around 3 litres of water per day, which seems like a lot, but it will help keep you cool and feeling well. Get yourself a cup or bottle that you really like, which should encourage you to drink more, and have a look at the various apps designed to help you keep on top of your water intake!
Wear SPF
You should be wearing SPF, at least on your face, between March and October – and definitely when the weather gets better and the sun is out a lot more. While the sunshine can provide vital vitamin D, it also has harmful UV rays which can damage your skin’s delicate barrier and lead to burns, sores, and potential melanoma. This is rare, of course, but it’s always best to protect yourself where you can.
Stick to your routine
When the days get longer and the nights get lighter, it can be tempting to stay up later – or you might find yourself waking up earlier than necessary. Try to stick to your established routine as best you can in the summer months; your body will thank you for it, and you’ll find you’re able to carry on getting everything done.
Wear what you want
Within reason, wear whatever you want! Every body is a bikini body, and while you shouldn’t be wearing one to your lectures it is always important to remember that you don’t have to hide your body away just because you feel as though you don’t fit societal norms of what makes a “nice” one.
Keep your student accommodation clean
When the weather is nice we can be tempted to abandon normality and head out to enjoy the sun – and while enjoy the sun you should, it’s important that you keep on top of making sure your space is clean and tidy. Warmer weather means the bin can get smelly, for example, and brighter days mean you might spot dust or dirt you don’t see otherwise. Give your accommodation a quick spruce up each day, and you’ll be able to bask in the sun guilt-free.
Hotter weather is a firm favourite among us Brits, and we don’t get much of it so be sure to get out and spend some time in the sun. Just don’t forget your summer self-care, as it’s really important to take care of yourself. You can’t enjoy the weather if you’re feeling poorly, so be sure to stay on top of things.
