Ah, young love! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we know that you will want to really spoil your special someone – but these things cost money. As a student, money can be tight a lot of the time, so we’ve pulled together a bunch of budget-friendly Valentine’s Day date ideas. And remember, these don’t necessarily have to be for you and a romantic partner; they’re just as fun with friends and flatmates.
Make some art together
One really cute thing to do together is make some sort of art – buy some cheap canvases and paint, try your hand at moulding air dry clay, or use melted candle wax to paint onto tapered candles. You’ll always look back at what you’ve made and remember that you did it together!
Bake something sweet
Valentine’s Day is another excuse to eat something sweet and delicious – and everything tastes better when you bake it yourself! From chocolate cake to flapjacks to no-bake rocky road, there are so many possibilities. Get creative in the shared student kitchen with your lover or besties, and make each other’s favourite treats.
Go for a walk
Wrap up warm and head out to somewhere cute nearby for a nice walk; you may need to drive or take public transport to get there, but it’s just lovely to be out in the fresh air. Below you’ll find a list of nice places near to either of our student accommodations in the West of England which are lovely for a wander…

Bodenham – around 20 minutes away by car, and perfect for a fresh morning walk
Ross-on-Wye – a sweet village to walk around, roughly an hour by train

Have a movie night
Don’t want to pay for cinema tickets? DIY it! Turn down the lights, craft yourself a projector using your phone and a shoebox, and get the popcorn in. There are plenty of cheesy rom coms and Hallmark movies available to stream for free or with the services you already pay for, so this can be a really cheap Valentine’s date night in.
Play some games
Whether it’s classic board games like Monopoly, your favourite card game or something on the Switch, playing games together is the perfect affordable date night – get some snacks and pop on a playlist full of all those gorgeous love songs, then see who comes out on top…
There you have it – some super affordable Valentine’s Day date ideas for you and your partner or friends. Showing somebody how much you love them doesn’t have to cost a thing, really, and memories can always be made.
