Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – a cliché, perhaps, but it’s true! You need to fuel your body and mind ready for the day ahead, especially if you’ve got a day full of lectures, seminars, studying, socialising and more. Don’t skip it in favour of a few extra minutes in bed; try some of these super quick and easy breakfast ideas instead.
Protein pudding and fruit
It seems like protein is the big buzzword right now, but it is a vitally important part of your nutrition. Protein helps you feel full for longer, builds muscle, supports your immune system and much more. You can buy delicious protein puddings in a variety of flavours like vanilla, chocolate or caramel, which have a decent amount of nutritional value and are really quick and easy to eat – pretty much like eating a yoghurt! Pair with some chopped or even frozen or dried fruit for a tasty way to start the day.
Tasty toast
Toast is, of course, the go-to breakfast for many people – but it can be pretty boring just having buttered toast every day! Why not stock your fridge space or cupboard with a variety of spreads like Nutella, Marmite, strawberry jam, peanut butter, honey, houmous, cream cheese… the list goes on, really, as you can add pretty much anything to toast to make it even tastier.
Overnight oats
If you spend some time getting these ready in the evening, overnight oats make for the perfect quick and healthy breakfast. Get a jar or tub, add 1 part oats to 1 part milk of choice, mix and refrigerate overnight – it’s as simple as that. However, plain oats might not be your style. The good thing about this breakfast is that it’s totally customisable, and there’s so many things you can add to make it even more delicious. From peanut butter to chia seeds, fresh fruit to chocolate chips and so much more, overnight oats are the perfect grab and go student breakfast.
Yoghurt & granola
Grab a bowl, throw in some yoghurt, and top with granola – voila, a quick and easy breakfast that’s healthy too! Again this is totally customisable, as you can choose what flavour yoghurt you prefer and which type of granola, from high-protein to nutty to fruity, there are plenty of options out there. A big tub of yoghurt will easily last you a week, and granola lasts a long time too as you don’t need much to fill you up.
Cereal bars and breakfast biscuits
If you’re really short on time, pre-packaged cereal bars and breakfast biscuits are always good to have in the cupboard – they’re not massively filling, but it’s better to eat something rather than nothing at all. There are plenty of flavours and options to choose from, and they’re usually a low cost option too.
Remember, skipping breakfast will have you feeling sleepy and won’t help your brain retain information, nor will it help kickstart your metabolism for the day. Be sure to try some of these tasty, quick and easy student breakfast ideas instead!
