Struggling to know what to pick up as Christmas presents in the run up to the big day? We’ve got some great ideas for gifts that won’t break the bank, but will be sure to put a smile on your loved ones’ faces!
Personalised hampers
You don’t need to spend a lot on putting together personalised hampers for Christmas. Grab a wicker basket (you can find these in budget stores or even charity shops!) and line with some shredded paper. Then add in all of their favourite things: that chocolate they love, a bottle of wine, some sweets. Or make it a beauty hamper with moisturiser, bubble bath and a face mask. Just something to let your loved ones know you’re thinking of them, and that you really know them…
Tokens of your time
Want to give gifts without spending a penny? Tokens are a great way of doing this – offer to walk their dog, babysit their kids so they can go on a night out, tidy their overflowing pantry for them… there are so many things you can do for people to make their life that little bit easier, and this is a great way to gift on a budget!
Photo gifts
This one won’t cost you a lot at all – pick out a lovely photo of you and whoever you’re buying for, and get a nice frame for it. Try to make sure the frame matches the decor or vibe of their home, too. This is the perfect way to say ‘I love you’ at Christmas without having to spend more than roughly £5. Every little helps when you’re a student, especially while you’re waiting for your next loan instalment…
Homemade gifts
We wrote a whole blog post of ideas for homemade gifts, from baked goods to body scrubs and more – and there are so many other things you can make. Knit somebody a scarf, laminate a nice design and turn it into a bookmark, make something out of poms poms like a wreath or even earrings. The opportunities are endless when it comes to creating homemade gifts your friends and family will simply adore.
Adopt an animal
We’re not talking about gifting somebody a rescue puppy – dogs are for life, not just for Christmas after all. You can pay a few pounds per month (starting at just £3!) to adopt a penguin, panda, turtle, elephant and more with the WWF. This is a win-win as you’re donating to charity, so you’ll feel good and the recipient will be overjoyed too.
Christmas is about being together, having fun, eating too much cheese and taking naps whenever you want. It’s not about giving multiple gifts and getting into debt – as a student, saving money where you can is super important!
